Robert H Masters

Dr. Robert H. Masters, 85, of Idaho Falls, passed away December 25, 2022 due to complications of a stroke, at Teton Post Acute Care in Idaho Falls.

Robert was born September 20, 1937, in Logan, Ohio to Paul Eugene Masters and Ethel Maude Cooper Masters. He spent his early childhood in Chicago before moving to Idaho Falls in 1949, where he discovered, to his great delight, that he was to spend his time exploring the Middle Fork area during the summers while working on his Uncle John Hatch’s Ranch, Falconberry.

In 1954 Robert graduated from Idaho Falls High School to attend the University of Washington majoring in Chemistry, and as a member of the rowing team.

He then completed his medical degree at University of Utah medical school, and his internship at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle, Washington. From there, Robert then excelled in his residency program at San Diego County Hospital. While practicing urologic medicine in San Diego, California he had the distinction of serving the medical community as an active member of a variety of medical legislative associations for nearly 20 years. Including, Sharp Memorial Hospital’s Executive Medical Board, Sharp Hospital’s Vice Chief of Staff, the San Diego County Medical Society, the California Medical Association (CMA) House of Delegates, the CMA Commission on State Legislation representing the American Urologic Association (AUA) Western Section, and ultimately serving as the President of the California Urologic Association. Dr. Robert Masters retired from clinical practice in 2009, but continued working in medicine as a consultant with the Department of Disability Services until he retired in 2020, returning to Idaho Falls.

Robert exemplified a lifelong passion for his family , the medical profession, and service to the community; as well as, a great appreciation for the great outdoors. Robert is survived by his wife Cheryl G. Masters; their daughter Lauren E. Masters, and his three children by his first wife O. Kathrine Masters; Karen S. Masters, David C. Masters, and Barbara J. Masters. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Judith A. Masters Williamson and his parents Paul and Ethel Masters.

A celebration of Life will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday June 6, 2023, at Buck-Murphy Funeral Home, 825 E. 17th Street, Idaho Falls, Idaho.
