Neil W. Schrack (U.S. Army Retired)

Lt. Colonel Neil W. Schrack (U.S. Army Retired) passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 13, 2023 at the age of 95 at the Gables of Idaho Falls Assisted Living.  He was born on July 15th, 1928 in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania where he went to Stroudsburg High School and then attended Lehigh University in Bethlehem PA.  He joined the U.S. Army in 1952 and for the next 24 years was stationed on assignment around the U.S. and the world including: Pennsylvania, Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Japan, Korea, Germany, Vietnam, and Virginia.

Neil attained the rank of Lt. Colonel and received many medals and commendations for his service including: Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Korea Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross, and two Overseas Service Bars.  After retiring from the U.S. Army after 24 years of service, he worked for several companies throughout the U.S and lived in Virginia, Oklahoma, New Jersey and Missouri.  After retiring a second time in 1992, he lived in Wildwood, Missouri for 31 years until 2023, when he moved to Idaho Falls to live with his son, David.

He is preceded in death by his parents Earl and Nita Schrack (DuBree) of Pennsylvania and his daughter Terri Kalafa (Schrack) of Virginia.

Neil is survived by his son David and wife Mary of Idaho Falls; son-in-law Ron Kalafa from Florida; grandchildren Spencer from Colorado, Darren and wife Elizabeth from Texas, Mason and wife Kate from Australia, Devon and husband Geoff from Arizona, and Evan and wife Elli from Florida; great grandchildren Avery, Afton, and Emerson; and his faithful dog Maggie.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Gables Assisted Living and Aspen Home Health and Hospice for the care and attention given to Neil while he was in their care over the past number of months.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Buck-Murphy Funeral Home in Idaho Falls and private internment will be at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Blackfoot, Idaho with full Military Honors.
