Maria Hill

March 6, 1934 — November 11, 2021

Idaho Falls

Emma Maria Hill of Idaho Falls passed away November 11, 2021. She was born March 6, 1934 at Piscataway, Maryland to Champ Clark Middleton and Rosina Matilda Middleton. She was raised in Maryland and Alexandria, Virginia along with her four brothers and two sisters. After high school, she worked at the Pentagon and then moved to France to work for the Department of the Army. While there she traveled throughout Europe, and met and married Marvin Marcy Williamson, a young Army officer (later divorced).

The family had four children as they moved from France to Iowa to California in the early 1960s, before settling in the Washington D.C. area. Maria stayed at home to raise her four children. She was very active in her local Catholic parish, organizing fundraising activities.

After moving to Idaho Falls in 1976, she worked as a realtor, was part owner of a Century 21 office, and served as president of the Idaho Falls Board of Realtors. She married Thomas Richardson Hill in September 1993. Together they traveled the world extensively.

Maria developed a love of running with Thomas and went on to run many marathons. Together they camped, hiked, fished, and cross-country skied. She remained physically active until the end of her life, scheduling her workouts as a top priority.

Throughout her life, Maria pursued a wide diversity of personal interests and charitable work. She loved to garden. She was a lifelong bridge player, hosting bridge parties wherever she lived. In Idaho Falls, she played duplicate bridge and achieved the rank of silver life master.

Maria never stopped learning, always working to expand her knowledge of many subjects. She was a member of a local investment club and antique study group for many years. Maria was a voracious reader and she participated in a local book club. Her charitable pursuits included support of several local arts and social services organizations. Particularly in the years since the death of her husband Thomas, Maria was active in the local arts community with her dear friends.

Maria treasured time with her family. She was fortunate to frequently care for her grandsons and great-grandsons. She loved nothing more than a crowded dinner table with children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren gathered together. A gifted cook and hostess, Maria enjoyed bringing friends and family together in her home and took great pleasure in her garden parties and holiday festivities.

Maria is survived by her brother Benjamin Paul Pulzone (Kaye); her children Marcy Teresa Vranes (John) of Lewisville, Idaho, Mark Trusten Williamson (Tracy Crow) of Columbus, Ohio, Noelle Marie Walker of Idaho Falls, and Martina Joan Williamson of Salt Lake City, Utah; stepsons Kristofer Johnathon Hill of Sonoma, California, and Geoffrey Hamilton (Silvia) of London, England; grandsons Cory James Walker and Haydyn Marcy Walker, both of Idaho Falls;

and great-grandsons Paxton James Walker, Boston Scott Walker and Kingston Todd Walker; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Maria is preceded in death by her husband Thomas, her parents, her sisters Rosina (Terry) Matilda Horton, Georgia (Gigi) Frances Fulmer, and her brothers Champ (Buddy) Alexander Middleton, Edgar (Jimmy) Parker Middleton, and Joseph Bradley Middleton.
