On Monday, November 29, 2021, Joyce M. Schoonover, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away at her home at the age of 92.
Joyce was born on October 24, 1929 in Racine, Wisconsin to Walter and Minnie Sorensen. She graduated from high school in Seward, Nebraska. She met her soulmate, Jack Schoonover, and they were married on April 15, 1951. Once married, they moved to Oklahoma for a job opportunity and started a family. Their daughters, Melanie and Heather, were born in Oklahoma. In 1961, they moved to Idaho Falls, where Jack worked at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory. Their son, David, was born in 1968.
Joyce was a dedicated member of the Lutheran church - Missouri Synod. She enjoyed quilting, reading, and donating her time to the Lutheran Braille Workers for over 35 years. She was also fond of completing her daily crossword puzzles and working on jigsaw puzzles.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her two brothers, David and William Sorensen, and her husband.
Joyce is survived by her three children, Melanie Schoonover, Heather Priest, and David Schoonover (Niccole), and her brother, W. Dale Sorensen. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Addie, James (Rachel), Matthew and Zachary, and three great grandchildren, Ellie, Jack, and Camden.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 3, 2021 at 10am at Hope Lutheran Church in Idaho Falls, Idaho. A viewing will be 45 minutes prior to the service. Interment will be at Fielding Memorial Cemetery. Luncheon at Hope Lutheran will follow.
