Douglas Donovan James

June 11, 1947 — May 1, 2023

Douglas Donovan James was born in Ritzville, Washington on June 11, 1947 to C. Donovan and Jeanne James. He moved to Idaho Falls at a young age and grew up farming wheat with his father. He attended the University of Idaho and was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He graduated from the University of Idaho in 1970 with a degree in teaching. In 1970, he married Sharon Langley and returned to Idaho Falls where he initially farmed with his father. He worked at Cal Ranch Stores where he was a purchasing agent for nearly 40 years. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, and target shooting at the range. He was a member of Cedar Hills Gun Club and NRA. He was also a major contributor to the success of Cabela's, as he was enthusiastic in searching for new sporting equipment.

Doug is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sharon James, and two daughters he absolutely adored, Codi James (husband, John and two step-grand daughters Julia (18) and Maia (14)) and Brandi Panteleon (husband Paul and grandson Cy (10)). He had five sisters, Carol (Kenlon) Johnson, Melanie (Steve) Heninger, Cindy (Brandt) Lacey. Kim James (partner David Wade), and Kathy (Doug) Bingham (both deceased). Doug has requested that there not be a funeral service. As such, we encourage anyone who is interested in honoring Doug's life to add a comment below and/or make a donation to their favorite charity in lieu of flowers.
