Walter Herman Will

October 24, 1925 — June 2, 2015

It is with deep and heavy sadness that we announce the death of Walter Herman Will, who passed on Tuesday, June 2, 2015, from this mortal life into eternal life where he could spend eternity with his beloved wife, Dorothy. Dad was 89 years young and came into this world on Oct. 24, 1926, in Kimberly, Idaho. Walter was the oldest of three children to Hugo and Greta Will. They lived in the Kimberly area where Walt farmed with his father. After graduating from Kimberly High School, he enlisted in the Army Air Corp which later became the Air Force. While home on leave he met Dorothy Childers at a dance in Twin Falls, after a short courtship they were married on March 10, 1946. They lived and farmed near Filer, Kimberly and Murtaugh, Idaho, and later settled in the Eden-Hazelton area to farm and raise their family. Walt and Dorothy enjoyed participating in a square dancing club where he was known for his zest for calling the dances. They traveled throughout the Magic Valley attending and calling many square dances. For many years they would pack the family up and attend a big square dance jamboree at Yellowstone Park and Old Faithful. While Walt and Dorothy danced, the eight kids chased bears. His love for flying led him to attain his private pilot's license and become a member of the Jerome Flying Club for several years. He enjoyed taking friends and family on short jaunts around the Magic Valley. Grandpa Walt influenced his oldest grandson, Stacy Meyer, into the flying world. He could always be found playing card games at all the family gatherings. Gin and pinochle were his favorites. Everyone was welcome at Mom and Dad's house and his smile and humor will be greatly missed. He enjoyed camping and hunting with his family in the mountains. Every year there was a family camping trip planned somewhere. In the Sawtooth National Forest above Ketchum or in the mountains south of Kimberly or out at the end of the road up Antelope Creek, and finally at Lake Walcott. All the kids with their families would attend to fish, ride ATVs, water ski, play cards, and roast marshmallows around the camp fire late into the night. And all the grandkids learned Grandpa's method to roasting the biggest marshmallows without burning them. Dad enjoyed hunting deer and elk when he was younger. He would spend weeks planning and preparing for the yearly fall hunting trip. His best fall was the year he drew elk permits for the Selway hunt. I would say the elk from that hunt tasted the best of all the hunts and the stories of climbing those steep craggy mountains for a week lasted for years. In his golden years, Walt spent lots of time traveling southern Idaho following all the activities of his many grandchildren, sports events, cattle shows and rodeos, 4-H projects at local fairs, car races and ski races, and school activities. He was very proud of the many accomplishments of his family. Walter is survived by five daughters, Donna (Lyle) Fuller of Twin Falls, Idaho; Vivian (Alvin) Meyer of Pocatello, Idaho; Karla Williams of Twin Falls, Idaho; Marie Bourn of Murtaugh, Idaho; and Bette (Mark) Gower of Bellevue, Idaho. He is also survived by an extended family of two nieces and one nephew that Dorothy and Walter opened their hearts and home to and raised as their own, Linda (Chuck) DeNure of Pocatello, Idaho; Keven (Delene) Childers of Oakley, Idaho; and Bonnie Bolender of Idaho Falls, Idaho. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren, and his second wife of six years, Rose Minami of Weiser, Idaho. Walter was preceded in death by the love of his life, Dorothy Evelyn Childers of 62 years on July 13, 2008; his parents, Hugo and Greta Will; his brother, Robert Will; his sister, Paula Malone; and his great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Jean Payne. A funeral will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2015 at 2 PM at White Mortuary "Chapel by the Park" with a viewing on Friday, June 4, 2015 from 6-8 and 1 hour prior to the service. He was a good husband, father and role model and will forever be in our hearts.
