Ronald R. Newsom, 62, of Fruitland, ID passed away Jan. 11, 2018. A Celebration of Life will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 20th at the West Valley Free Methodist Church in Fruitland. Arrangements are under the direction of Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Fruitland. Condolences may be made to Ron's family at www.shaffer-jensenchapel.com.

Ron was born in Moscow, ID on Aug. 31, 1956. He attended numerous schools in his early years and finished high school in New Plymouth, ID in 1974. He joined the Army shortly after graduating and served for four years before returning to Idaho. He later joined the Army National Guard as a part-time soldier and soon became full-time. Ron achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class and retired from the Army National Guard after performing several jobs. His last role was that of a trainer on the "M1A1 Abrams Tank," this being a job he truly loved. He would start every day by saying, "Today I am working on a jet powered tank."

March 1, 1975, Ron married Pattie Reynolds; from that union they had two children, Shane and Ashley. They later divorced.

Jan. 4, 1986, Ron married the love of his life, Karen Lilienthal. With this marriage came two more children, Laci and Craig.

After retirement Ron loved the outdoors which included hunting, fishing and riding his four-wheeler. He was also an avid gun collector. Ron enjoyed working in his shop and took great pride in building a garage that was larger than his house.

Ron was known for his loyalty, honesty, and sense of humor. If asked, he would tell you the complete truth as he knew it. Some would say that his filter was not completely functional; however, if a friend was in need Ron was the first person to lend a hand. Ron was infamous for sharing his accurate but diverse views on life.

He is preceded in death by his parents John and Ula Newsom, two sisters Dorothy and Joan, two brothers Chet and Norman and son Craig Newsom.

Ron is survived by his wife Karen; son Shane Newsom (Suzanne); daughters Ashley Herron (Steve) and Laci Friedley (Matthew); sister Sharon Stutzman, brother John Newsom (Pamela), sister Patty Gentry; and four grandchildren Wyatt Newsom, Ella Herron, Weston Newsom and Coleson Friedley.

Ron will be remembered as a proud father and grandfather, loving husband, and true friend.
