Varsel Peterson lifelong resident of Idaho Falls, Idaho passed away April
  
  30, 2017. Art was born July 20, 1935 in Idaho Falls to Arthur W. and
  
  Arzula Peterson. He was raised and lived in the New Sweden area most of
  
  his life except for attending the University of Idaho and his hitch in the US
  
  army. He was a graduate of Shelley High School, lettering in three sports.
  
  After graduation he attended the U of I on a boxing scholarship. Art met
  
  and married Sandi MacPherson, they made their home in New Sweden
  
  and raised two beautiful children together. For a time Art worked for
  
  Western Airlines as a Station Agent then later worked for Argonne
  
  National Laboratory for 33 years, retiring in 1994. He was a master
  
  gardener and had a small farm in the New Sweden area where he enjoyed
  
  raising a small flock of sheep, and was the recipient of several 4H
  
  grand
  
  champion lamb awards. He was active as a 4H
  
  leader for many years.
  
  After his retirement Art enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, "not for the scenery
  
  but the climate of the tropics. "He is survived by his wife of 52 years Sandi,
  
  his daughter Candace (Peter) Bauer of Boise, his son Anthony (Ann)
  
  Peterson of Idaho Falls, his grandson Alex Peterson, and one sister
  
  Marsha (Bill) Schmitt of Pocatello. Preceded in death by his parents, and
  
  his brother Darrel. A celebration of life in Art's honor will be held Saturday
  
  May 27 at 3:00 pm at the Peterson home at 4994 W. 17th South Idaho
  
  Falls, ID. The family would like to express their appreciation to Aspen
  
  home health and hospice. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the
