Les was born on Oct. 8, 1918 in Shenandoah, IA. He was the youngest of four children born to Edward Orr and Lydia Belle Vess Wilson.
After graduating from high school, Les attended a radio and television school to become a disk jockey for a short time. On Jan. 19, 1941 he was inducted into the Federal Service. On Feb. 17, 1943 he was captured by Rommel and spent 27 months as a prisoner of war. He was liberated on May 7, 1945. Les was given credit for 43 months overseas duty.
Following his discharge he moved to Idaho. He met Anna Josephine "Jo" Oster of Payette and they were married on Dec. 29, 1945 in the Payette United Methodist church. Jo passed away suddenly on May 10, 1994, 17 years to the day of Leslie. They were married 49 years.
Les was employed by the U.S. Post Office for 32 years, retiring in 1978. He was active in the American Legion, Washoe Lodge #28, Payette, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Cryptic Masons of Idaho, Knights Temlar, Royal Arch Masons of Idaho, El Korah Shrine, El Korah Shrine Clowns, El Korah Jesters, Payette Shrine and the Snake River Shrine Clubs, a Charter Member of Gold Rush Shrine Club and a member of the Payette First United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jo; his parents, two sisters and one brother. He leaves behind his nieces and nephews, close friends and his special friend and companion of many years, Barbara Azcuenaga, Turner, OR.
As Leslie had no children of his own he regarded the patients of the Shrine Hospital for Children as his children. Please make contributions in his name to El Korah Travel Fund, c/o Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, P.O. Box 730, Payette, ID 83661.
We wish to thank the staff of The Cottages of Payette and Legacy Home Health & Hospice for the compassion and care given Leslie.
