Jose Rizo

Jose Felipe Rizo (Phil), 49, passed away unexpectedly on March 22, 2026 in Idaho Falls.

Born on November 3, 1976, Phil lived a life that was uniquely his own. He was someone who found joy in the simple, grounding moments; time spent outdoors, the feeling of being on a bike with nowhere particular to go, camping under open skies, or cooling off in the water on a warm day. Those were the places where Phil seemed most at peace and where those who knew him best could see him fully himself.

At the center of Phil’s life were his children. He loved them deeply and that love remained constant. No matter where life took him, being part of their lives mattered to him in a way that never faded.

Phil’s life was not without its challenges, but he experienced the world in a way that was real and deeply human. He left an impression on those who crossed his path; through shared moments, conversations and the memories built over time. He will be remembered not for any one chapter, but for the fullness of his life and the relationships that shaped it.

In a final act of generosity, Phil was able to give to others through organ donation. With the support of his family, this gift reflects a meaningful way his life continues to touch others, offering hope and healing beyond his passing.

Phil is preceded in death by his father, Jose Rizo; mother, Louise Gutierrez; and his sisters, Mary Jesse Wieland and Tilly Gutierrez.

He is survived by his children, Kaleb Rizo, Kaley Rizo, and Michael Rizo, all of Ammon, Idaho; his brother, Victor Abarca of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and his sisters, Mary Quam of Idaho Falls, Idaho and Francisca Gutierrez of Ammon, Idaho.

Following his return from Salt Lake City, Phil will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
