Ester Ruth Eldredge

Ester Ruth Eldredge was born on the 12th of March, 1927 in Burdett, Alberta, Canada. She was born in a large family with three siblings and eight half brothers and sisters. Her father was born in Wisconsin and his parents were from Norway and her mother was from England. Her parents met and married in Canada. She grew up on a large cattle and horse ranch in Mountain View, Alberta, Canada. She went to schools in southern Alberta, Canada and received very good grades, many of them being H's, the highest grade in the province of Alberta. She used to laugh at the high schools in the United States, saying that they were more like social clubs in comparison with those in Alberta, Canada. As she grew up, she was given more and more responsibilities with the cooking of the food for their large family and also for their many guests that visited them. Her husband said later that one of the reasons that he became big was that she had not learned to cook for just two people. During a visit to the United States, she met and Iater married Clarence Chester Eldredge. On the 25th of March in 1947 in the Cardston, Alberta, Canada temple. For the first six years of their marriage they migrated from one farm job to another but in about 1954, when Dee was about six years old, they bought a house in Twin Falls, Idaho, in which they had four children. She lived in this house until a few years after her husband died. Then, she went to live with Sandra Butts, her daughter. A few years later, she lived in a nursing home until she died in Lehi, Utah on the 13th of December, 2017. She is survived by three of her children Dee Eldredge, living in Beaumont, CA; Terry Eldredge, in Boise, Idaho; and Sandra Butts, and living in Pleasant Grove, Utah. Their son, Jack William Eldredge, died when he was sixteen. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and many more great grandchildren. Also, she has one great-great grandchild. Ester Ruth was always serving others, making meals for others or helping others with church and personal projects. Mondays were her cooking days and many in the neighborhood to our house came to have cinnamon rolls or freshly baked bread on that day. She maintained a very large garden. Her children were involved in helping her to do all that had to be done with this garden, watering the many corrugates in it, planting the seeds, weeding, picking the many bean plants, husking the many cobs of corn, picking the raspberries and the fruit off the trees, digging up the potatoes and carrots, canning the beans and other fruits and vegetables, and the many other activities associated with the garden. She canned almost everything. Her canned string beans were very popular with almost everyone. In the cellar of the house, many bottles of fruit and vegetables were stored every year. She loved to walk and would do so several miles every day. Even when she was older she would walk around Lehi, Utah, and get lost in the process. She was deeply religious. She and her husband served a mission in the Portland, Oregon mission among the Asian peoples living there. Later, they served eight years in the Boise, Idaho temple as ordinance workers. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on January 4, 2017 at the Twin Falls LDS Maurice Church 425 Maurice St. in Twin Falls with a viewing one hour prior from 10-10:45 a.m. at the church.
