Edna Lucille Johnson

May 26, 1924 — March 11, 2018

Edna Lucille Drewes Johnson was called to Heaven by our Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 11, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. She began her earthly journey on May 26, 1924. She was the second of five children born to Frances and Herman Drewes. Her life was spent in the Idaho Falls area. We are all truly blessed that in 1947 she met the love of her life, Val Demont Johnson and on June 5, 1947 they were married. That joyous union resulted in five children. She is survived by her loving husband of over 70 years as well as all five children and an expansive family that treasured and adored her. In addition to the rigors of rearing five boisterous children, as well as the demands of marriage, one thing remained steadfast in her life, that was her enduring love for her Lord, Jesus Christ. She was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church. During the years of raising her children she also worked most of those years. We fondly remember her speaking of her time at "Monkey Wards" (aka Montgomery Wards). Prior to retiring, she spent many years working for the Utility Billing Department for the City of Idaho Falls. Following her and dad's retirement, they tried a brief stint of living in the Los Angeles area to work with Uncle Garth and Aunt Hazel. (Who incidentally happened to be two brothers that had married two sisters. Dad and Garth were brothers and Mom and Hazel were sisters.) Moving a girl from a small town like Idaho Falls and a boy from the even smaller Firth, Idaho to the metropolis of Los Angeles did not work out very well. The hustle and bustle of the Big city did not set well with them. After six months, they returned to their loving family and friends in Idaho Falls. Beginning around 1983, their winter journeys started to Yuma, Arizona. For 27 years they made the trek south to join their many "Snowbird" friends in the warm Arizona climate. Many lifelong friends, both American and Canadian, were made and still communicate with them. She is survived by her loving husband of 70+ years, her brother Richard Drewes of Sacramento, California, five children: Mary (Glenn) Bowser of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Dennis (Vicky) Johnson of Meridian, Idaho; Kelvin (Marsha) Johnson of Eagle, Idaho; Jan (Danny) Fraser of Chubbuck, Idaho; and Brett (Cathi) Johnson of Idaho Falls, Idaho. She was blessed with, and treasured by, 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren... She is proceeded in death by her father Herman Drewes, mother Frances Patience Nunn Drewes Miller, step-father Albert Miller, infant brother Martin Drewes, her sisters Hazel Johnson and Lenis Sinsel.
While her physical time here on earth has ended, we will miss her dearly. Our comfort rests in the belief that this is not "Goodbye" but merely to say "See you later." We can only imagine the joyous occasion when she got to see the face of her God. And the glorious homecoming she so adamantly deserves by her loving family that went before her. We bask in the glory of having spent our time with her in this earthly life. And anxiously look forward to the day we meet again in the heavenly kingdom our God has prepared for us. A celebration of life service will be held in Edna's honor Monday, March 19, 2018 at 11 am at St. John's Lutheran Church, 290 7th St. Idaho Falls, Idaho. Friends and family may visit one hour prior to services on Monday at the church. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. John's Braille program in Edna's honor.
Arrangements made under the direction of Buck Miller Hann. Online condolences may be left at www.buckmillerhann.com
