Dorothy Irene Bush
August 2, 1929 — September 15, 2019
Our mother, Dorothy Irene Helms Bush, was a wonderful mother and a most caring lady who loved family and life. She was born in Oakley, Idaho on August 2, 1929, and lived a marvelous 90 years. She welcomed all who came into her life - God & church, family, friends, neighbors. Dorothy was the second youngest of child of Theodore and Alice Helms and one of 15 children born to them. She loved the fellowship of a large family.
Mom met Dad, Edward Bush, while attending college in Albion, Idaho in 1948. They were married 67 years beginning on the first day of Spring in 1948 in Malad, Idaho. The family grew with us - Irene, John (myself), Wally, and Grant and continued to grow as we married and added grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren. Education was important to Mom as she loved reading and encouraged all to learn more! She loved quilting & cooking, she loved animals, farming, and gardening but most of all she loved family!
Mom could never turn away a stray animal and brought Blackie and Shadow into her and our lives, who were her companions for many years.
Mom was always cooking and inviting visitors to stay for dinner. No one was ever turned away and there was always plenty of food.
She loved making quilts and each of us have quilts to remember her by. She loved visiting with people, and her time with Avon allowed her to enjoy even more persons. She loved God and helped each of us to develop our religious values and involvement with church - always letting us decide for ourselves.
Mom enjoyed having grandchildren and cousins visit and stay with her. There were always good times and opportunities to teach her skills to others and to tell stories. My favorite time was our trip to Germany for Mom and I to participate in a "500 year Helms Family Reunion" on the original Helms farm still in operation in Gammel-Bach by Konrad and Beata Helm. We celebrated her birthday there with cake, beer, schnapps, and partying with family from around the world.
Mom loved her family, her friends, and life in all that she could do. We will remember her as she has entered heaven to celebrate with God!
May she forever be remembered as our Angel - leading the way in life to God!
