When she was a junior in high school, she moved with her parents to Fruitland, ID where she graduated in 1959. She worked for a time for Ore-Ida. Then she went to beauty school in Boise. Upon graduation she worked in Boise for about three years, then in Caldwell, and Weiser. She then moved to Payette where she had her own beauty shop. They spent several years as camp hosts in RV parks in Brenda, AZ and Donnelly, ID.
