Charlene Southon

January 12, 1945 — June 6, 2025

Charlene Dolores Southon (nee Hagan) was born January 12, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois to James Ledford Hagan and Charlotte Anne Hagan (nee Bager). Her father was in the US Marines at the time. She grew up in Lombard and Yorkfield, Illinois. She graduated from Glenbard East High School in Lombard in 1963 and attended a business school in Chicago. She worked for U.S. Steel as a secretary, and met and married Robert L. Southon in 1967. They lived in Blue Island, Illinois when their son Robert J. Southon was born, and moved to a house in Frankfort IL when their son Daniel M. Southon was born. The family moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho in 1973, when Charlene’s husband began working for Aerojet Nuclear, later Argonne National Laboratories. The family moved briefly to Jackson, Michigan in 1977 and returned to Idaho Falls in 1979. Charlene liked camping, travel, bridge, and reading. She played bridge with her friends in the Luncheon Bridge group on Mondays and Fridays, enjoyed book club, worked at JC Penney, and volunteered with various philanthropic organizations. She enjoyed traveling all over the world with their travel friends, being up in Wisconsin with family, spending time with family and friends at the cabin in Star Valley Ranch, and loved traveling to Chicago to see her granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Daniel M. Southon, and her sister Donna Cole (David). She is survived by her loving husband Robert L. Southon, her son Robert J. Southon (Amy), her brother James G. Hagan, her sister-in-law Shirley Daubner (Len), and granddaughters Anna Southon and Kathryn Southon, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
