Carrol Gene Standlee

June 27, 1932 — December 26, 2010

Carrol Gene Standlee known as Gene, 78, of Eden passed away Sunday December 26, 2010, at his home. Gene was born in Monette, Missouri on June 27, 1932, to Cyrus and Opal Standlee. Gene grew up in the Hazelton, Eden area. He entered the Navy at the age of seventeen and served four years in the Korean War. Upon returning from the service, he moved to Kansas and worked for the Census Bureau for 3 months and could not wait to get back to the farm life so he bought a brand new "Pink" convertible and headed back to Idaho where he met and married Deloris June McConley. Together they had five children. They also raised two of their grandchildren, Chester Standlee & Amy Standlee (Kimball ). Gene always had the desire to have his own business, and with hard work, he purchased his first truck and hauled potatoes to Caldwell, for several years. Gene then purchased his first hay equipment and started his hay business. Through his hard work and great integrity, he taught his five children these values as they worked alongside of him in his hay business. Everyone in the family was involved, whether with running equipment, the girls fixing lunches and cooking for the hay crew, raking hay or whatever needed done. He was a man that valued hard work, honesty and a handshake was his promise and his word.
Gene spent his life enjoying and supporting his sons, grandsons and great grandsons love of sports by his participation at their games. Gene also supported and encouraged his daughters, granddaughters and great granddaughters in whatever they chose to participate in. He spent over twenty years watching and supporting The College of Southern Idaho Basketball games and also a great fan of The BSU Broncos with his season passes, he and his wife and other family members supported and cheered the team on.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, June (McConley) Standlee; two daughters, Tanya( Kelly)Mcgrew from Hawaii, Tena Wiese from Boise and two sons, Mike (Whendy) Standlee from Eden, Idaho and Gace Standlee from Phoenix. Two sisters, Glenda (Byron)Snyder from Twin Falls; Glenys Johnson from Hazelton and three brothers, Gary (Pat)Standlee from Casa Grande, Arizona ; Garld ( Barbara)Standee from Phoenix; Dean (Trish)Standlee from Anthem, Ar., Twelve grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cyrus and Opal Standlee, one sister Gayla (Standlee) Huber, his son and daughter-in-law Lynn & Kathy Standlee and his brother-in- law Jim Johnson.
There will be a viewing Wednesday, December 29th, 2010 at White's Mortuary "Chapel by the Park" from 6 PM to 8 PM. Please join his family in celebrating his life at funeral services held at First Assembly of God Church at 189 Locust Street North (next to the Burger Stop on Addison) in Twin Falls, Idaho on Thursday December 30th, 2010 at 1:00 PM.
