December 15, 1925 — July 27, 2016

Blanche Theresa (Phillipp) Newman, 90, of Idaho Falls, passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at Parkwood Meadows Assisted Living Community. She was born on December 15, 1925 in Idaho Falls to Joseph Adolf and Frances Helen (Sieger) Phillipp. She attended Holy Rosary Catholic School, O.E. Bell Junior High, and Idaho Falls High School. Following graduation, she worked at an insurance company and the Post Office. She married George J. Newman on October 30, 1947 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. The young couple moved into a small farmhouse in the New Sweden area and were blessed with 7 children. After raising their children, George and Blanche retired from the family farm and settled into their new home on 9th Street.
Blanche enjoyed working as a Foster Grandparent at Skyline High School and developed many friendships with these young mothers. She traveled with the Foster Grandparents on trips to Las Vegas, Reno, and Branson. She also volunteered as a reading tutor at Holy Rosary Catholic School for kindergarten and first grade. Many of her former students came to visit during her last few years. She enjoyed several trips with her brothers and sisters to Nevada and California. Her hobbies included gardening, embroidering/sewing, and canning. Her greatest joy in life was visiting with family and friends. She was a devout member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church where she was involved in Altar Society and other women's groups.
Blanche is survived by her children: Marie Sleeth (Ted, deceased) of Caldwell; Martin Newman (Tracie) of Idaho Falls; Liz Johnson (Chris) of Boise; Frank Newman (Rhonda), Helen Hill, Jerome Newman, and Lucille Collette (Jim), all of Idaho Falls; her brothers: Herman Phillipp (Bernice, deceased) of Idaho Falls and Paul Phillipp (Joni) of Park City, UT, and brother-in-law, Roddy Fischer of Twin Falls. She was blessed with 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, George; her parents, Joseph and Frances; her sisters, Genevieve, Cathy, Angie, Margaret, Pauline, and Rosalie; her brother, Joe; son-in-law, Ted Sleeth; and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
