Beth Darnell

June 28, 1937 — March 24, 2018

Mary Elizabeth Baughman Darnell passed into eternal life on Saturday, March 24, 2018. Beth, as she was known to all her family and friends, was born to Irvin and Eula Baughman in Grand Junction, Colorado on June 28, 1937, the youngest of ten children. Beth was the valedictorian of her high school class and went on to earn her Bachelor's Degree in Education from the University of Oklahoma. In 1958, she married the love of her life, Ross Darnell, in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Beth and Ross had two daughters, Karen Marie and Kris. The family settled in Idaho Falls in 1973 where they became very active in the local community. P.E.O. was very important in Beth's life and she was a two-term Past President of Chapter BI in Idaho Falls. Beth and Ross were members of Christ Community Church. Beth's Christian faith was extremely important to her. Playing bridge was something Beth enjoyed very much. In fact, her mind was still sharp and she played bridge just two weeks before she died. Ross and Beth spent time traveling with friends and went to exotic places like Thailand, Peru, and New Zealand. One of their favorite trips was to Alaska. Beth and Ross spent many years building a cabin in the Teton Valley near Driggs. They loved spending time there with family and friends. Their cabin will be a lasting legacy for their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren where they can go to hike, ski, feed the chipmunks, and play games. When Beth was 48 years old, she was diagnosed with a significant brain tumor. Being a woman of faith, strength and determination, she faced this new challenge bravely. She never complained of her many medical problems and remained as independent as her body would allow. About a year after Ross passed away, Beth moved to Morningstar Senior Living where she lived for over seven years. At Morningstar, Beth was on the food committee, attended church services regularly, played bridge and bingo, and was often found working on puzzles. The family would especially like to thank the caregivers at Morningstar where Beth received excellent care. Beth was survived by her two daughters, Karen Marie (Chuck) Sonnen of Arvada, Colorado and Kris (Ken Krebs) D'Antoni of Idaho Falls. Three grandchildren survived Beth: Nicole D'Antoni of Idaho Falls, Mark (Anna) Sonnen of Grand Junction, Colorado and Kevin Sonnen of Seattle, Washington. Five great grandchildren survived her - Lucas and Nathan D'Antoni, Danielle, Alaina, and Lauren Wright. Beth was preceded in death by her husband, Ross Darnell, and by all nine of her siblings, Lois, Robert, Theodore, Mildred, Wayne, Dorothy, Richard, Shirley, and Ruth. The memorial service for Beth will be held at Christ Community Church, 5742 S. 5th W. Idaho Falls, on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made for an educational scholarship to P.E.O. Chapter BI, c/o Carol Comstock, 1741 E. 16th St., Idaho Falls, ID 83404. Arrangements made under the direction of Buck Miller Hann Funeral Home
